This is a beautiful and impressive ancient coin we at Palos Verdes Coin Exchange are pleased to offer you today. The sestertius is an impressive and meaty coin in-hand – it just feels good. Over an inch in diameter. Dating from the reign of Marcus Antonius Gordianus, the thirteen year old emperor had the typical life of a Caesar, filled with familial power struggles and betrayals. He was replaced as emperor by Philip the Arab after driving back the Sasanians temporarily, then perhaps falling in battle.

This dark bronze piece nonetheless has pleasing surfaces and very nice detail. By today’s standards, it’s strike is almost like that of a medal, with prominent raised features. The Numismatic Guaranty Corproration (NGC) certifies this coin at the grade of Choice Very Fine.
