Here was have an interesting and extremely scarce example of a modern American Silver Eagle planchet. This unstruck silver disk was supposed to become an ASE but somehow it didn’t make it into the coin press. Because the minting process is so carefully monitored at the U.S. Mints around the country, these are very scarce and hard to come by. Normally they would make it back into the feed or at least back into the mix to be remelted and re-used.

This planchet is considered to be a Type II slab at a weight of 31.1 grains of silver.

Pure American silver, a transitional state of raw bullion after purification but before striking. PCGS grades this mint error ASE Mint State 62.
