Here we have for you a truly rare and interesting piece of early American history. This is how we can claim to be the best coin dealer in Palos Verdes and the best coin shop in the South Bay. We have the best coins.
George Washington was a beloved figure in early American history, almost deified. His refusal to accept coronation and his overall victory in the Revolution made him highly admired amongst his peers.
As the country mourned his death, many showed their solidarity with America’s first president by wearing small medals. This such funeral urn medal was worn by someone who held Washington dear. As such, it’s an exciting piece. However, this silver B-166A example is even more interesting in that Washington medallic catalogers believe fewer than 40 (URS-7, R-5) of this type exist in silver. Truly, a rare piece of American history.
NGC certifies this example authentic and carrying the grade of Fine 15.
