The famous “widow’s mite” of the New Testament story from the Bible. Luke, Chapter 12: “And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. So He said, “Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.”

Minted in Judea under Alexander Jannaeus of the Hasmonian Dynasty before Judea became a prefectorate of the Roman Empire. This coin was minted just 100 years or so before the birth of Jesus Christ, and they were prevalent in use for trade in the region.

It’s exciting to have a direct connection to something said in the Bible. These prutah are somewhat equivalent to one cent coins today. This coin has excellent surfaces and color for the grade. We’re pleased to bring you this affordable and historical option.
